How Come the Hulk Isnt on Disney Plus

It may have been over a decade since we've had a Hulk solo film with The Incredible Hulk – but now the hero's cousin aka She-Hulk is getting her very own Disney+ series.

Orphan Black favourite Tatiana Maslany will be taking on the role of the new green goliath, who is an accomplished lawyer named Jennifer Walters until she gets an emergency blood transfusion from Bruce Bunner and becomes a superhero herself.

The cast is now taking shape quite nicely, with Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth returning as The Hulk and The Abomination, respectively.

We also have some exciting new characters also – with Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga and Renée Elise Goldsberry all joining in roles as either Walters' friends or foes.

Here's everything you need to know about She-Hulk.

When is She-Hulk going to be released on Disney+?

She-Hulk is expected to premiere at some point in 2022, although no official release date has yet been confirmed.

The streaming service once again confirmed that the title would be "coming soon" on its two-year anniversary celebration for Disney Plus Day.

The celebrations saw the platform show off some footage exclusively on the service and also share an all-new logo for the show.

The first season will consist of 10 episodes clocking in at around 30 minutes each and has been described by producer Kevin Feige as a "legal comedy".

She-Hulk trailer and footage

A full trailer for the Marvel Studios series She-Hulk has yet to be released but Disney Plus has released a preview for upcoming Marvel series as part of Disney Plus Day.

The footage introduces Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters and her profession as a working lawyer.

The clip also teases her green She-Hulk appearance but we do not get a full-body shot or see her face as of yet.

Also present in the footage is Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and as Professor Hulk.

The clip also features a retro clip that features a callback to the classic 1970s show The Incredible Hulk, with Walters warning alongside Banner that "you won't like her when she's angry".

The footage has yet to be released publicly but is available exclusively on the Disney Plus streaming service for subscribers.

She-Hulk cast

Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk in her self-titled series, after rising to prominence on the acclaimed sci-fi drama Orphan Black, where she played multiple roles.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo is confirmed to be reprising his popular Avengers role of Bruce Banner, last seen with a firm grip on his anger issues in 2019's Endgame.

The footage for the series as shown as part of Disney Plus Day shows Jennifer and Bruce interacting heavily as he teaches her about her powers.

Bruce appears in his human guise and also as "Professor Hulk" suggesting no more rage blackouts for the superhero.

Marvel

In a long-suspected move, Tim Roth is finally returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villainous Abomination, who was first introduced in 2008's The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton.

He was incarcerated at the end of the movie but his whereabouts in the decade since have not been disclosed, so expect the She-Hulk series to fill in some blanks.

In January 2021, Ginger Gonzaga was added to the cast of the series and revealed to be playing Jennifer Walters' best friend, although her character's name is yet to be confirmed (via Deadline).

In April 2021 Deadline reported the news that Renée Elise Goldsberry, best known for playing Angelica in Hamilton, would play a character called Amelia.

Finally, it was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter in June 2021 that The Good Place star Jameela Jamil will take on the role of villain Titania.

In the comics, Titania is a long-time rival of She-Hulk and possesses super-strength. Recent years have seen her transform from a villain into an anti-hero.

Jessica Gao will serve as the lead writer of the series, fresh off her Emmy win for penning Rick and Morty's famous Pickle Rick episode.

Who is She-Hulk?

She-Hulk made her first appearance in November 1979's Savage She-Hulk #1, which reveals her dramatic origin story. Jennifer Walters is a skilled lawyer and the cousin of Bruce Banner (AKA The Incredible Hulk), who is gunned down by a crime boss with a vendetta against her.

With her life on the line, Banner performs an emergency blood transfusion which sees him pass some of his gamma radiation onto her, transforming her into She-Hulk. A recent casting call has hinted that this comic-accurate origin story will indeed make it into the show.

Walters doesn't suffer from the same anger issues as her cousin which has allowed her to keep her day job even when in Hulk form, recently establishing her very own legal practice in the Marvel comic books.

How will She-Hulk fit into the MCU?

While Marvel's previous TV offerings (e.g. Agents of SHIELD) were technicallyset in the MCU, their links with the movies were tenuous at best.

However, the Disney+ shows so far, which include Falcon and Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki and Hawkeye, all tie in directly with the events unfolding in the MCU film series.

In fact, in an interview with Bloomberg, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said: "If you want to understand everything in future Marvel movies, you'll probably need a Disney+ subscription."

And with the inclusion of Mark Ruffalo in the She-Hulk cast, it seems safe to assume that the universe's angriest cousins will eventually team up in an Avengers movie.
